Ukraine army downs dozens of Iran-made kamikaze UAVs used by Russia

Ukrainian Armed Forces destroyed 26 Iran-made Shahed-136 kamikaze drones on the night of October 16 to 17.

The remarks came from the Spokesman for the Air Force Command of Ukraine’s Armed Forces Yuriy Ignat on the air of the national telethon on October 17, according to Ukrayinska Pravda.

“Yesterday we reported that 11 kamikaze drones were destroyed in this direction. From 3.30 to 7 am another 15 of these drones were destroyed. So we actually have destroyed 26 Shahed-136 drones in the area of responsibility of the ‘South’ air command overnight. There, mainly anti-aircraft missile units were involved, but there was also the deed of fighters,” Ignat said.

In total, according to the Operational Command "South", since the beginning of the use of the Shahed-136 by the Russian military, 100 of them have already been destroyed in the southern direction, Ignat noted.

According to the Air Force, 75 per cent of such kamikaze drones are shot down by the Ukrainian military.

Ignat said that he did not yet have updated information regarding the ongoing attack on the capital of Ukraine.
