Ukraine detains FSB agent plotting attacks on energy sites in Kryvyi Rih PHOTO
Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) has detained a 31-year-old agent of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) in the Dnipropetrovsk region who was preparing new missile and drone strikes on the energy infrastructure of Kryvyi Rih.
The main targets were local thermal power plants and electricity facilities, Caliber.Az quotes the SBU's statement posted on Telegram.
To adjust Russian strikes, the suspect conducted additional reconnaissance near energy facilities to determine their technical condition after previous Russian attacks and to “report back” to the FSB.
According to the investigation, the suspect moved around the city using public transport, photographed the facades of energy enterprises, and recorded the locations of personnel and equipment of Ukraine’s Defence Forces. He planned to pass the collected data to his Russian handler.
The man worked as an assistant machine operator at one of the region’s mining enterprises and came to the attention of the FSB due to anti-Ukrainian comments he had posted in Telegram channels.
The SBU detained him at his place of residence following another reconnaissance operation. During a search, officers seized two smartphones used to collect information and communicate with his handlers.
The detainee has been formally charged under the article “high treason committed under martial law.” He is currently in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
