Egypt to launch digital QR code visa system for tourists
Egypt will begin replacing traditional paper visa stickers with digital QR code visas as part of a new initiative aimed at streamlining entry procedures for international travelers.
According to an announcement by the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, made in coordination with relevant government agencies, the new system has been fully developed and is intended to simplify travel procedures while improving the quality of services for visitors, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
The digital visa system will be introduced on a trial basis at Cairo International Airport starting August 1.
Under the new format, tourists will be able to obtain a QR code through an official website, a mobile application, or self-service booths located in airport arrival halls.
The total cost of the visa will be $36, comprising a $30 visa fee and a $6 service fee.
Travel companies will also be able to obtain QR codes on behalf of their clients up to 48 hours before arrival, allowing organized tour groups to complete entry formalities in advance.
Following the pilot phase in Cairo, Egyptian authorities plan to expand the system to all international airports across the country, including the popular Red Sea resort destinations of Hurghada and Sharm El-Sheikh.
