German chancellor brings ministers together for cabinet meeting

Three days after returning from Tegernsee, Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) has resumed government business, with the Cabinet set to convene for a two-day retreat at Neuhardenberg Castle in Brandenburg on the afternoon of August 25, Spiegel reports.

According to the report, before the meeting began, Merz said the main focus would be on Germany’s “price competitiveness,” including dialogue with entrepreneurs and startups.

“Germany must remain a strong industrial power even in the age of artificial intelligence,” the chancellor noted.

Earlier, Merz made clear that he intended to swear in new ministers to carry out the necessary reforms.
