Euronews chief says Europe should pay closer attention to Central Asia

25 August 2026 14:43

Euronews CEO Claus Strunz has urged Europe to pay closer attention to Uzbekistan and Central Asia.

Speaking at the International Media Forum Islamic Civilisation: New Perspectives – New Discoveries, being held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, he stressed the need to strengthen ties between the two regions, Caliber.Az reports, citing Kyrgyz media.

According to Strunz, Central Asia was largely absent from the Western media agenda in the 1980s. Coverage of the region focused mainly on security issues and emergencies.

“Today, the situation is completely different. We see how the history of the region is becoming part of the modern global agenda,” he said.

“It is time for Europe to pay closer attention to Uzbekistan and Central Asia,” Strunz added.
