Tokayev says Kazakhstan committed to stronger ties with China

16 July 2026 20:14

Kazakhstan remains consistently interested in comprehensively strengthening its eternal and strategic partnership with China, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has stated.

During talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, he said China enjoys tremendous authority within the international community, and its achievements have been recognised worldwide, Caliber.Az reports, citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

“In recent years, political dialogue between our two countries has intensified significantly," Tokayev noted.

The Kazakh leader further stated that the two countries had also achieved considerable progress in trade and economic cooperation.

"China is Kazakhstan's largest trading partner. To date, China has invested $30 billion in our country's economy. Last year, bilateral trade reached $49 billion. More than 8,500 Chinese companies are now operating successfully in Kazakhstan," Tokayev added.

The president thanked Xi for inviting him to participate in the World Artificial Intelligence Conference, noting the symbolism of holding the event in Shanghai, which he described as the "Pearl of the East."

Tokayev also congratulated Xi on the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China.

Following the meeting, the two sides signed the Programme and Roadmap for Trade and Economic Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Government of the People's Republic of China for the 2027-2030 period.
