Ukraine: First domestically developed guided aerial bomb ready for combat use VIDEO
Ukraine has developed its first domestically produced guided aerial bomb, which has completed testing and is ready for operational deployment, according to the country’s Defence Ministry.
Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov said the new system was developed through the state-backed defence tech cluster Brave1 and is designed to strengthen battlefield capabilities as the war with Russia continues.
According to Fedorov, the guided air-dropped bomb has already passed the necessary trials and is now being integrated into operational use by Ukrainian pilots.
According to Fedorov, the development process took around 17 months and resulted in what he described as a uniquely designed munition, built specifically for the conditions of modern warfare rather than based on Soviet or Western models.
The weapon reportedly carries a 250-kilogram warhead and is intended for strikes against fortified positions, command centres and other high-value targets at ranges of several tens of kilometres after release from an aircraft.
The ministry said it has already procured an initial experimental batch, with pilots currently conducting training and adapting tactics for battlefield deployment.
Officials said the programme marks a shift towards greater domestic production of advanced weaponry, aimed at reducing reliance on imported systems and improving precision strike capability.
“In the near future, Ukrainian guided aerial bombs will be used against enemy targets,” Fedorov said, adding that the initiative is intended to expand the range and accuracy of strike options available to Ukraine’s armed forces.
