Ukraine, IAEA discuss nuclear safety, energy infrastructure protection
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha held talks with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi on the sidelines of the Chornobyl International Conference on Nuclear Safety and Recovery.
Sybiha said he briefed Grossi on ongoing Russian attacks against Ukraine, including repeated strikes on energy infrastructure. He said Ukraine had endured what he called its most difficult winter while continuing to operate under sustained pressure, Caliber.Az reports.

He also thanked Grossi for what he described as his “unwavering attention” to Ukraine and for maintaining the country’s issues on the international agenda, noting that Grossi has visited Ukraine more than ten times.
According to Sybiha, the two sides discussed the importance of continuing IAEA monitoring missions at Ukraine’s nuclear facilities, including the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, as well as at substations. He said the presence of monitors is essential to reduce risks and counter nuclear security threats.
The talks also focused on strengthening protection for nuclear power plants and energy infrastructure. Sybiha welcomed the signing of a memorandum between Ukraine’s Energy Ministry and the IAEA on expanded cooperation in nuclear safety and the recovery of the country’s energy sector.
He added that both sides agreed to develop initiatives supporting the health and recovery of Ukrainian children, including recreation programs for children of nuclear power plant employees.
