Ukraine jails FSB-recruited spy for 15 years
A court sentenced a 21-year-old resident of Ukraine’s Kirovohrad region, who was recruited by Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB), to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The young man attempted to set fire to one of the region’s key electrical substations and was simultaneously spying on the positions of Ukrainian forces, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) press service.
The investigation found that the perpetrator was “recruited through his pro-Kremlin comments on Telegram channels.”
He tracked the coordinates of strategic targets and coordinated the “objectives” with his FSB handlers.
During the arson attempt, the SBU detained the man and seized a container with a flammable mixture, as well as a smartphone used to communicate with his handlers.
The court found him guilty of the following charges: treason under martial law; sabotage under martial law.
