Ukraine refuses enriched uranium from Russia
The Ukrainian company ““Energoatom”” will no longer buy enriched uranium from the Russian Federation. The British company ““Urenco”” may become the new main supplier.
According to UNIAN, this was reported by the press service of NNEGC "Energoаtom".
According to the head of the company Petr Kotin, negotiations were held with the responsible managers of the “URENCO” Group. At the same time, he assured that cooperation with Russia, including the purchase of Russian uranium concentrate, is unacceptable for Ukraine. That is why “Energoatom” intends to increase purchases from “Urenco”.
The British company “URENCO” Group is engaged in uranium enrichment using gas centrifuge technology for further use at nuclear power plants. The company has uranium enrichment facilities in Germany, the Netherlands, the UK and the US. “Urenco” supplies fuel for nuclear power plants to 15 countries of the world, and its share in the world market is about 29%.
At the same time, a third of the company is owned by the British government, a third by the government of the Netherlands, and the rest by the German energy companies “E.ON” and “RWE” in equal shares.
