Ukraine's ex-premier says it is impossible to completely ban Russian language
Former Ukrainian Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov has said that the position of the language ombudsman in Ukraine should disappear when the new leadership comes to power in the country, while it is impossible to completely destroy the Russian language in the country.
"The position of the Commissioner for the protection of the state language, of course, will disappear in Ukraine. For me, it is quite obvious that all the legislative nonsense, which has been adopted over the past ten years, should be eliminated as legally null and void when the new leadership comes," Azarov wrote on his VK social media page, Gazeta.ru reports.
He also recalled that technical documentation at many Ukrainian enterprises and nuclear power plants is written in Russian. And Ukrainian culture, according to Azarov, is mainly Russian-speaking.
"It is impossible to completely ban the Russian language," the former prime minister summarized.
