Kyiv condemns Moscow over use of Chinese components in drone strike Photo
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has sharply criticised Moscow following a fresh wave of Russian airstrikes overnight, accusing the Kremlin of intensifying its war efforts with the support of Iran, North Korea, and Chinese manufacturers.
In a post published on X, Sybiha revealed that debris recovered in Kyiv from a Russian “Shahed-136” (also known as “Geran-2”) combat drone indicated the use of recently supplied Chinese-made components, Caliber.Az reports.
“What an irony,” Sybiha wrote. “Following tonight's massive Russian air attack on Ukraine, we discovered in Kyiv a component of a Russian-Iranian Shahed-136/Geran-2 combat drone, which was made in China and supplied just recently.”
The foreign minister drew attention to the geopolitical complexity of the conflict, noting that the drone discovery came just hours after the Chinese Consulate General in Odesa suffered minor damage from a separate Russian missile strike.
“And right on the eve, the Chinese Consulate General's building in Odesa suffered minor damage as a result of Russian strikes on the city,” he added. “There is no better metaphor for how Putin continues to escalate his war and terror while involving others, including North Korean troops, Iranian weapons, and some Chinese manufacturers.”
Sybiha used the incident to reinforce Kyiv’s long-held position that security threats posed by Moscow extend far beyond Ukraine’s borders, warning of consequences for global stability.
“Security in Europe, the Middle East, and the Indo-Pacific is inextricably linked. This is not an attention competition. Countering Russian aggression and terror in Europe directly contributes to enhancing security in the Middle East and the Indo-Pacific.”
Calling for stronger international action, he urged Washington and allied governments to step up pressure on Russia and its partners.
“We urge the United States and the international community to increase pressure on both the regime in Moscow and its war budget, as well as everyone else around the world who supports Russia's war effort and enables Putin to continue killing people in Ukraine. There is no more time to wait.”
The Ukrainian military reported intercepting dozens of drones and missiles during the night, with air raid alerts issued across multiple regions.
