Ukrainian parliament to create working group on presidential elections During martial law
The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, is setting up a working group to explore the possibility of holding presidential elections during martial law, David Arakhamia, head of the "Servant of the People" parliamentary faction, announced on December 22 via Telegram.
Arakhamia stated that the discussion would take place at a specialised committee focused on state power organisation, local governance, regional development, and urban planning, Caliber.Az reports.
Representatives from all parliamentary factions, the Central Election Commission (CEC), and public organisations involved in election matters will participate in the discussions.
The date and time of the meeting, which will also be open to media representatives, will be announced soon, Arakhamia added.
The Central Election Commission previously noted that elections in Ukraine could only be held under peaceful conditions and with necessary legislative adjustments. Current election laws are designed for peacetime and will require significant revisions to account for the ongoing wartime and post-war realities.
