Ukrainian president revokes Odesa mayor's citizenship
Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stripped Odesa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov, former Party of Regions MP Oleg Tsaryov, and ballet dancer Sergei Polunin of their Ukrainian citizenship.
During the televised marathon “United News,” a presenter citing government sources confirmed the decision, noting that authorities had verified the Russian citizenship of the three individuals, Caliber.Az reports per UNIAN.
The move follows a petition submitted to the Presidential Office calling for Trukhanov’s citizenship to be revoked.
The petition alleged that Trukhanov holds a Russian passport and tax ID, which violates the Ukrainian Constitution. It also accused him of propagating Russian state narratives, posing a risk to national security.
Trukhanov had previously acknowledged the possibility that such a decision could be taken.
