Czechia’s gas storage facilities 74% full ahead of heating season
20 September 2026 19:00
Czech gas storage facilities are currently 74% full, with reserves around 20% lower than at the same time last year, Industry and Trade Minister Karel Havlíček said.
According to Havlíček, the lower level of reserves does not pose a risk of a gas shortage this winter. He noted that further purchases should be made cautiously due to current market prices, as the issue is currently more about the cost of gas than its availability.
Despite having lower reserves than a year ago, the Czech Republic remains above the EU average, with storage facilities across the bloc less than 67% full.
Czech authorities also expect the country to meet the EU’s main storage target of 80% filling between October 1 and December 1.
