UN session to address French colonial legacy in New Caledonia, French Polynesia
The 142nd session of the UN Human Rights Committee is scheduled to take place from October 14 to November 8.
This session will review reports from Ecuador, France, Greece, Iceland, Pakistan, and Türkiye regarding their implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, Caliber.Az reports.
In connection with this, the Baku Initiative Group has submitted an alternative report to the UN Human Rights Committee titled “The Legacy of French colonialism continues to impede the realization of the right to self-determination: The examples of New Caledonia (Kanaki) and French Polynesia (Maohi Nui).”
This report, which lashes out at France's colonial policies, has been published on the official website of the UN Human Rights Committee. The report on France is scheduled to be reviewed on October 22-23.
