UN Women Regional Coordinator: Azerbaijan supports gender equality agenda

UN Women Regional Coordinator Kaori Ishikawa has said that Azerbaijan supports the gender equality agenda and highly appreciates the role of women in peacebuilding.

Ishikawa made these remarks during the annual high-level strategic consultations between the Azerbaijani government and local UN offices in Aghdam, Report informs.

She said that the gender equality issue is a priority for Azerbaijan in many spheres.

Ishikawa noted that the UN has many initiatives related to the activity of women.

“This year, 21 Azerbaijani companies have joined the UN Global Compact [Global Compact is a UN project aimed at promoting the social responsibility of business],” she said, adding that the UN supports Azerbaijan’s such initiatives for the sake of inclusiveness and sustainable development.
