Azerbaijani parliament, Pan-African parliament discuss future cooperation

Azerbaijani Parliament Speaker Sahiba Gafarova and Pan-African Parliament President Fortune Charumbira discussed prospects for expanding interparliamentary cooperation and strengthening ties between Azerbaijan and African countries during a meeting in South Africa.

The Azerbaijani Parliament said the sides discussed the development of Azerbaijan's relations with African countries, prospects for interparliamentary cooperation, and other issues of mutual interest, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

Charumbira praised Gafarova's address at the Conference of Speakers of National and Regional Parliaments, highlighting the importance of parliamentary diplomacy. He described Azerbaijan as a reliable partner for African countries.

Gafarova stressed that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to its relations with African states and supports expanding interparliamentary cooperation and strengthening engagement with the Pan-African Parliament.

She noted that further broadening parliamentary ties would serve the mutual interests of both sides and pointed to significant opportunities for expanding institutional cooperation with the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Gafarova invited the leadership of the Pan-African Parliament to visit Azerbaijan.
