Baku calls for international action as landmine blast injures two civilians

03 August 2026 16:13

Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has renewed its call for stronger international support for humanitarian demining, following another landmine explosion that left two Azerbaijani citizens seriously injured.

The ministry highlighted the continuing threat posed by landmines in a statement published on its official account on the social media platform X, stressing the long-term humanitarian impact of mine contamination, Caliber.Az reports.

“As a result of another landmine explosion 2 Azerbaijani citizens were severely injured.

Since the 2020-war, 433 people have become a victim of landmine contamination by #Armenia.

This tragedy is a stark reminder of the continued human cost of landmines and the dangers faced every day by innocent people.

There is an urgent need for enhanced international support for comprehensive demining efforts.

A mine-free future is essential for sustainable peace, development, and human security,” the statement by the ministry said.
