US-built tank in Australian camouflage spotted in Poland PHOTO
A newly surfaced photograph circulating online appears to show the arrival of another military aid shipment for Ukraine, possibly passing through Poland. The image features an American-made M1A1SA Abrams tank, part of a batch of 59 formerly used by the Australian Army—49 of which have been pledged to Ukraine.
Although the exact location of the photo has not been verified, the appearance of the tank in what seems to be Polish territory suggests that the delivery route of these heavy vehicles is again running through Poland, a key logistical hub for Western military aid bound for Ukraine, Caliber.Az reports via Defence24.

According to public details, the tanks were sourced from Australia’s existing inventory of retired M1A1 Abrams platforms. These vehicles are being phased out as the Australian Defence Force transitions to 75 newer M1A2 SEPv3 variants.
The 31–33 M1A1SA-UKR tanks previously provided by the United States began seeing combat in February 2024. According to Russian open-source tracking site Lost Armor, 17 of these tanks have been hit—8 destroyed, 9 damaged, and 4 of those later captured by Russian forces after abandonment. That leaves Ukraine with an estimated 14–16 of the original batch still operational.
On May 19, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese stated that 49 Abrams M1A1S tanks, decommissioned by the Australian Army, had already been dispatched and were “on their way to Ukraine.”
Australia’s delivery of 49 additional tanks will significantly strengthen Ukraine’s armoured capabilities, potentially raising the total number of operational Abrams tanks to 63–65. Under Ukrainian force structure, this would allow the formation of two armoured battalions, each consisting of three companies of 10 tanks plus command vehicles and reserves.
There has been no official confirmation from the Polish Defence Ministry regarding the information published by Defence24 about the arrival of Australian tanks on Polish territory.
