US expert: Liberation movement kicks off in Iran
American researcher Brenda Shaffer has said that the iranian people want to establish closer ties and contacts with other peoples in the region and a liberation movement is beginning in Iran.
She made the remarks during her visit to Zangilan District's Ahgali village and the Khudaferin Bridge on November 21, APA reports.
"I haven't seen anything like this since the Islamic Revolution in Iran, it's amazing. This is exceptional, because people want not just a change in politics, but a change in the whole system of government. I wonder what's going on literally a few kilometers from where we're standing? The protests are not just in the capital or big cities, people are protesting in the most remote areas and villages. I think this also has to do with the kind of freedom people are currently given. In Iran, ethnic groups are not even allowed to go to school in their own language, even though it is their fundamental right.
In Iran, however, this is not possible, millions of people are not guaranteed the right to study in their mother tongue. These are dramatic times. I think Iran is just a framework, and within it there are different ethnicities and peoples. As you know, Azerbaijanis are one of the largest population groups in Iran. The Azerbaijanis living in Iran saw the war in 2020, saw Iran's support for Armenia.
Perhaps all of this brought them into action, they were proud of Azerbaijan's victory in this war, and it affected their national pride, led to their awakening. This is now part of the anti-government actions and demonstrations in Iran," the expert stressed.
