US: Gunfire at Carrollton shopping centre leaves two dead Suspect arrested
Two people were killed and three others injured in a shooting at a shopping centre north of Dallas in the United States on May 5, after a man opened fire following a prior relationship with the victims, police said.
Authorities said the incident was not a random act of violence and that the suspect and victims were known to each other, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
“It was a known business relationship. We are still working through trying to identify his causes," Carrollton Police Chief Roberto Arredondo said.
Police identified the suspect as 69-year-old Seung Han Ho, who was arrested after a brief foot chase about 4 miles (6 kilometres) from the scene at a grocery store, according to officials. It was not immediately clear whether he had legal representation.
Officers also searched a nearby apartment complex where Ho had recently lived. Residents said they did not recognise the name.
Following the shooting, armed officers moved through K Towne Plaza in Carrollton’s Koreatown district as FBI agents joined local police in collecting evidence from the parking area.
Carrollton, a city of about 130,000 people located 20 miles (32 kilometres) north of Dallas, has a significant Korean American population, with more than 4,000 residents of Korean descent according to census data.
Community members expressed shock at the violence in an area known for its close-knit atmosphere and growing commercial activity.
"We're shocked," said John Jun, who's active in the Korean American community. "We're not immune to something like this happening, but we are very generally a peaceful community that works hard."
Over the past two decades, the area has developed into a major Koreatown in the Dallas metro region, supported by Korean investment and businesses ranging from supermarkets such as H Mart to restaurants and cultural venues, as well as several Korean churches.
