US includes HIMARS shells in new Ukraine aid package
The USA has included ammunition for HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems, artillery shells and means of combating unmanned aerial vehicles in the new package of military assistance to Ukraine.
US President Joe Biden announced the allocation of additional assistance in the amount of up to $600 million on September 15, Kommersant reports.
The aid package also included 36,000 pieces of 105-mm artillery shells, 1,000 pieces of 155-mm precision artillery shells, four trucks and eight trailers for transporting heavy weapons. In addition, Kyiv will receive equipment for mine clearance, small arms and ammunition, and night vision devices.
The Pentagon clarified that the total amount of military assistance to Ukraine from the United States since 2014 has reached $ 17.9 billion. During the work of Biden's administration, Kyiv has already received $15.8 billion. Most of this amount - $15.1 billion - was allocated after the start of the Russian military operation.
The last US military aid package was approved in early September. It also included 105-mm howitzers and ammunition for HIMARS. This week, the United States announced the shipment of new missile systems to Ukraine. Joe Biden believes that the Ukrainian army has made progress, but there is still a long way to go.
