19 October 2023 13:34

The alert level has been raised at US bases in Syria, after two rockets hit the Koniko oil field this morning, in the governorate of Deir ez Zor, and three drones were launched against the base of At the Tanf, near the borders with Jordan and Iraq.

Local sources reported this to the Lebanese newspaper "Al Mayadeen", close to the pro-Iranian Shiite movement Hezbollah, Nova News reports.

The news has not yet had official confirmation. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (Sohr), a non-governmental organization based in London, but with a dense network of contacts in the field, also reported that Al Tanf was attacked during the night by three drones, belonging to pro-System militias. Iranians, a few hours after the mobilization of the forces of the US-led international coalition in the base. The Coalition shot down two drones, while a third hit the base, causing material damage.

Yesterday Kataib Hezbollah, An Iraqi Shiite paramilitary group that is part of the Iran-backed Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) has claimed responsibility for two attacks on US bases in Iraq.

“The Iraqi resistance operation against the Americans began today with the attack on their military bases. The Americans are the main partners in the killing of the people of Gaza and they must pay for it. The resistance launched the first blows today and the operation will continue in crescendo,” a military spokesperson for Kataib Hezbollah reported via Telegram.

The United States Central Command (Centcom) confirmed that US military forces in Iraq were targeted yesterday by two separate attacks with two drones against the Al Asad air base (in the western governorate of Anbar) and with a drone against the Al Harir air base (in the governorate of Erbil, in the autonomous region of Iraqi Kurdistan).

The attacks caused only "minor injuries" at the base Al Asad. “We are in a state of maximum readiness, closely monitoring the situation in Iraq and the region. We want to reiterate that US forces will defend themselves against any threat,” Centcom added.
