US president frustrated with UK after talks with PM Starmer
US President Donald Trump has voiced his disappointment with the United Kingdom following a conversation with Prime Minister Keir Starmer on March 15, he told the Financial Times in an interview.
According to Downing Street, Starmer discussed with Trump the importance of restoring navigation through the Strait of Hormuz to prevent disruptions in global shipping. This came a day after the US president called on the UK and other countries to send warships to the Persian Gulf.
"The UK might be considered the number one ally… and when I asked for them to come, they didn’t want to come," Trump told the Financial Times, adding that Britain only offered to send ships after the U.S. had already reduced Iran’s military capabilities. “And as soon as we basically wiped out the danger capacity from Iran, they said, ‘Oh, well we’ll send two ships,’ and I said, ‘We need these ships before we win, not after we win.’ I’ve long said that NATO is a one-way street.”
