US president stands firm against Iran’s nuclear program
US President Donald Trump has consistently maintained that Iran must never be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons, a White House statement reported.
Throughout his administration, Trump’s position has remained clear and firm: “Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon, it’s very simple,” he told media representatives, Caliber.Az reports.
In a dramatic shift during a span of about eight hours, Trump moved from suggesting that a nuclear deal with Iran was “achievable” to urging Tehran’s 9.5 million residents to “immediately evacuate” amid escalating tensions. He cut short his visit to the Group of Seven summit to return to Washington for urgent national security talks as Israel intensified missile strikes against Iranian targets.
The Israeli offensive, now in its fifth day, has reportedly caused significant damage to Iran’s military infrastructure. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to continue strikes until Iran’s nuclear program and ballistic missile capabilities are destroyed. However, Israel has yet to neutralize the deeply buried Fordow uranium enrichment facility, which may require the US-supplied GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrator—a munition Israel does not possess.
Trump accused Iranian leaders of refusing to negotiate: “They should have done the deal. I told them, do the deal. So I don’t know. I’m not too much in the mood to negotiate.” Yet, he has not ruled out diplomacy, indicating that Vice President JD Vance and special envoy Steve Witkoff could engage with Tehran.
The US has repositioned military assets in the region in case the conflict escalates further. Trump also rejected calls from some supporters for restraint. "Iran cannot have nuclear weapons!” “We can’t let Iran get a nuclear weapon. We can’t do it. Can’t do it. We cannot let that happen.”
“We can’t allow Iran to go nuclear.”
Amid divided opinions within his base, Trump faces pressure both to avoid deeper US involvement and to support Israel decisively. Senator Lindsey Graham urged him to “go all-in” in backing Israel and dismantling Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
