US to deploy National Guard troops to 19 states amid migrant surge
Approximately 1,700 National Guard members will be deployed across 19 U.S. states to combat illegal immigration and address crime, according to Pentagon sources.
The largest contingent will be deployed in Texas. Other states receiving troops include Idaho, Iowa, Alabama, Arkansas, Wyoming, Virginia, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio, Tennessee, Florida, South Dakota, South Carolina, and Utah, Caliber.Az writes via American media.
Authorities expect that by mid-November, the National Guard will provide logistical support to the Department of Homeland Security, assist with processing cases of detained illegal immigrants, and aid in data collection.
A Pentagon spokesperson declined to provide further details about the upcoming operations to combat crime in the country but assured that the Pentagon, in collaboration with other agencies, continues to work on protecting federal property.
The operation aims to support federal efforts to curb illegal immigration and address crime. The Pentagon has emphasised that this is separate from other Trump-directed crime crackdowns, such as the one in Washington, D.C., where 2,200 Guard troops and federal officers have been deployed.
