US to sell six MQ-9 Reaper drones to Italy In $738 million deal
The US State Department has given the green light for the sale of six MQ-9 Reaper drones to Italy, as part of a major defence agreement valued at $738 million.
This authorization allows the Pentagon to proceed with the transfer, which includes the drones, ground control stations, and advanced radar systems, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
According to a press release from the US diplomatic department, the package includes not only the MQ-9 Block 5 aircraft but also three ground control stations, nine maritime surveillance radars, and associated equipment. This deal is aimed at enhancing Italy's defence capabilities, particularly in terms of surveillance and reconnaissance.
The MQ-9 Reapers are known for their advanced surveillance and strike capabilities, making them a significant addition to Italy's military assets. The integration of these drones and accompanying equipment is expected to bolster Italy's operational effectiveness and improve its ability to monitor maritime and terrestrial activities.
