Polish official calls AfD gains in Germany "real problem" for Poland

Pawel Szefernaker, head of the office of Polish President Karol Nawrocki, has voiced concern over the strong performance of Germany’s far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in Saxony-Anhalt, describing its manifesto as “dangerous and unacceptable.”

Speaking to Zero television, Szefernaker said the AfD’s growing popularity in neighbouring Germany posed a “real problem” for Poland because some of the party’s policy proposals conflict with Warsaw’s interests.

He specifically pointed to “the AfD’s stance and its proposal to lift sanctions against Russia”.

At the same time, Szefernaker said Poland should focus on cooperation with political forces in Germany where the two countries can find common ground.

A reminder that the Alternative for Germany (AfD) received a “clear mandate” to form a government in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt following the September 6 election.
