Venezuelan leader exposes assassination plot against Vice President Rodríguez An Argentinean cop detained

07 January 2025 11:57

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro announced the detention of Argentine police officer Nahuel Agustín Gallo, who plotted an assassination attempt against the Bolivarian Republic's Executive Vice President, Delcy Rodríguez.

In a televised address, Maduro alleged without presenting any concrete evidence that Gallo entered Venezuela with a specific mission to harm Rodríguez, Caliber.Az reports via Venezuelan media.

"Some cried out, like the Argentinians, but I can say it today: we were waiting for these people. Thank God, we always have to thank Him, we have very good intelligence; they came from the south of America with specific plans to attempt against the life of Vice President Delcy Rodríguez," Maduro stated.

He further claimed that the Argentine government was complicit in the violent plans against Venezuela’s peace.

The family of Gallo has provided a different explanation, stating that he entered the country to visit his son and his Venezuelan girlfriend. Maduro rejected this version, stating, "It is a lie that he has a girlfriend here; this man has his wife in Argentina."

Earlier, Diosdado Cabello, Venezuela's Minister of Interior and Justice and a close ally of Maduro, had accused Gallo of entering the country on a spy mission. However, no tangible evidence has been presented by the Venezuelan regime to support these accusations.

In the final week of 2024, the Venezuelan government released footage showing Gallo walking in an open area at his detention facility. This marked the first confirmed proof of life following his forced detention at the Colombia-Venezuela border on December 8, 2024.

In response, Argentina has filed a formal complaint with the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Maduro's regime for the "arbitrary detention and enforced disappearance" of Gallo. The Argentine government specifically named Venezuela's Attorney General, Tarek William Saab, in connection with the case.

The Organization of American States (OAS) has supported Argentina's stance, describing Gallo’s detention as a "crime against humanity." The OAS condemned the arbitrary detention in a statement issued on Friday, calling for Gallo’s immediate release and urging the Venezuelan government to comply with international human rights treaties and agreements.
