War with Hezbollah to leave Israel without electricity
War with Hezbollah will leave Israel without electricity.
Hezbollah terrorist group’s strikes may cause a “national blackout” as part of preparation for a possible war in the northern area. At least 60 per cent of Israelis will have no electricity for a day or two, according to Israel Hayom.
According to another possible scenario, there will be no electricity for 72 hours or more in some areas. The power outage poses a big risk to people using home respiratory support systems. There are about 30,000 such people in Israel. Hospitals may use generators while those at home have no alternative power supply. Some 1,000 of them are unable to care for themselves. According to the Israeli Health Ministry’s plan, they will be delivered to hospitals.
There are approximately 7,500 mobile phone antennas in Israel. They have been equipped with batteries designed for two-hour operation. The Israeli Ministry of Communications has detected 500 of them, covering most of people. They will be provided with electricity. The Ministry of Economy and Industry has developed a plan to equip some supermarkets and grocery stores with generators. The plan was called “Iron Super”.
The National Emergency Management Agency, headed by Brigadier General Yoram Laredo, has prepared a new assessment plan according to which the war with Hezbollah will last longer than it was previously assumed. The necessary strategic reserves, including medicines, have been increased. The residents of the northern area are expected to voluntarily evacuate.
