A Washington Post analysis of satellite imagery claims Iranian strikes have caused far greater damage to US military facilities in the Middle East than previously acknowledged, hitting at least 228 structures or pieces of equipment across 15 sites.
The review, based on more than 100 verified high-resolution images, identified damage to hangars, barracks, fuel depots, radar systems and aircraft, including assets at key bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
Experts said the findings point to gaps in US base protection and adaptation to drone warfare.
“The Iranian attacks were precise. There are no random craters indicating misses,” said Mark Cancian, a retired Marine Corps colonel.
Another investigator, William Goodhind, said: “The Iranians have deliberately targeted accommodation buildings across multiple sites with the intent to inflict mass casualties.”
The report also said more than 400 US troops were injured and seven killed since the start of the conflict, though most injuries were described as non-serious.
US Central Command declined to address detailed findings, with a spokesperson saying “assessments of destruction are complex and can be misleading in some cases, but declined to provide specifics.”
Experts cited in the analysis suggested the scale of strikes reflected both Iran’s targeting capability and vulnerabilities in US force posture, particularly against one-way attack drones and missile systems.
