Yemeni forces launch third hypersonic missile strike on Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport during 24 hours

23 May 2025 13:49

The Yemeni Armed Forces have announced a precision strike on Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport in the occupied city of Jaffa using a hypersonic ballistic missile, marking the third such attack within a single day.

The exact type of missile used has not been disclosed, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.

Brigadier General Yahya Sare’e, spokesperson for the Yemeni Armed Forces, confirmed that the operation successfully achieved its objectives, forcing millions of Israeli settlers to seek shelter in bomb shelters and bringing airport operations to a halt. Sare’e emphasized that the strike was “in support of the oppressed Palestinian people and their resistance fighters, and as a condemnation of the genocide being committed by Israel against our brothers in the Gaza Strip.”

In a statement, the Armed Forces warned that “silence in the face of the daily massacres in Gaza will bring shame and disgrace upon the nation and increase its vulnerability to its enemies unless it fulfills its religious, moral, and humanitarian responsibilities toward the oppressed Palestinian people.” Yemen reiterated its commitment to continue and intensify military operations until the aggression against Gaza ceases and the blockade is lifted. Earlier today, sirens sounded throughout occupied Jaffa and more than 120 settlements across central Palestine as Yemen launched its third missile in 24 hours.

Explosions were heard, with Israeli forces attempting interceptions. Flights to and from Ben Gurion Airport were suspended. Israeli media confirmed that this was the third ballistic missile strike by Yemen in two days, with a total of 44 missiles and drones launched since fighting resumed in Gaza. Since the escalation of Israel’s war on Gaza in October 2023, Yemen has emerged as a significant regional actor backing Palestinian resistance efforts. Under the leadership of the Sana'a-based government, the Yemeni Armed Forces have conducted a series of strategic operations, including missile and drone strikes as well as naval and aerial blockades targeting Israeli infrastructure and maritime routes.

Initially focused on disrupting maritime traffic in the Red Sea, Yemen’s campaign expanded to target key Israeli economic centers such as the port of Eilat and Ben Gurion Airport. In May 2025, Yemen escalated its campaign further by declaring a naval blockade on Haifa Port, a critical economic gateway handling over one-third of Israel’s cargo traffic. These military actions are part of Yemen’s broader strategy to pressure Israel into ending its war on Gaza and lifting the blockade. The strikes have significantly disrupted international shipping, tourism, and air travel, leading numerous global airlines to suspend flights to and from Israeli airports.

Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) troops continue to operate, with the direction of Intelligence Support Activity (ISA), against terrorist organisations throughout the Gaza Strip. Over the past day, IDF troops eliminated several terrorists throughout the Gaza Strip and struck military compounds, weapons storage facilities, and sniper posts.

In addition, the Israel Air Force (IAF) struck over 75 terror targets throughout the Gaza Strip. Among the targets struck were terrorists, launchers, military compounds, weapons storage facilities, and additional terrorist infrastructure.
