Zelenskyy says Russia thinks week has "four days" after energy strikes
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Russia of breaching an energy ceasefire agreed with the United States following an overnight attack on Ukraine, local media reported on February 3.
Speaking via Telegram, Zelenskyy said Washington had called for strikes on energy infrastructure to be halted for a week, a period he said effectively began overnight on January 30.
He alleged that Russian forces violated the understanding during strikes carried out overnight into Monday.
“Either Russia believes that a week has four days instead of seven, or it is choosing to continue the war,” Zelenskyy said.
“We believe this Russian strike clearly violates what the American side had agreed upon, and there must be consequences.”
The Kremlin announced an energy ceasefire on January 30, saying it would remain in force until February 1. Monday’s attacks took place on February 3, two days after the deadline Moscow had cited, according to Ukrainian officials.
