China vows to combat Taiwan separatism

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has said that Beijing remains committed to the reunification of Taiwan.

Wang Yi made the remarks at the 77th session of the UN General Assembly on September 24, according to Nikkei Asia.

Only when China is fully reunified can there be true peace across the Taiwan Strait, he said.

Warning of "separatist activities" in Taiwan, Wang said any move to oppose China's unification effort will be crushed by "the wheels of history".

"China will continue to work for peaceful reunification with the greatest sincerity and efforts to realise this goal," Wang said.

"We must combat Taiwan independence separatist activities with the firmest resolve and take the most forceful steps," he added.
