Blinken: US not going to get into war with Russia
The US is not going to get into a war with Russia.
US President Joe Biden intends to avoid expanding the conflict in Ukraine, the US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said, according to Kommersant.
According to him, the US and Russia are maintaining contacts. Earlier, Biden said he was ready to go to talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin about ending the special operation in Ukraine if the latter also expressed a desire to start a dialogue.
"President Biden has been clear that we need to avoid an expansion of the conflict in Ukraine. On the contrary, we want to end it, but in no way expand it. We don't want war with Russia, especially since we don't want a third world war. That's not what we are striving for," Blinken said in an interview with "France 2" broadcaster.
On December 1, Joe Biden said at a press conference in Paris that he was not going to have any contact with Vladimir Putin in the near future. He added that he would be ready for talks with Putin when he showed a desire to end the military conflict in Ukraine. According to him, meetings with Vladimir Putin are possible only after consultations with NATO.
Blinken has also said that Washington does not intend to determine the terms of negotiations with Russia instead of Ukraine.
The diplomat stressed that Kyiv would decide on its own, but Washington would support its decision.
He added that there are conditions for dialogue between Russia and Ukraine, and the United States, in turn, is open to this.
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron said during a news conference following talks with US President Joe Biden that the terms of possible negotiations between Russia and Ukraine would depend on how the situation changes in the coming weeks and months.
