PM: Serbia on verge of war with Kosovo

09 December 2022 16:30

Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic believes that Serbs and Albanians were brought to a state close to war by Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and the inactive European Union.

She made the statement at a press conference in Belgrade, the Serbian daily Blic reports.

"Albin Kurti brought all of us, Serbs and Albanians, to the very edge of the war, but he did not do it alone. We note the completely ignorant behaviour of partners and the European Union, who do not react or react only when it is already 'completely burning"," Brnabic said.

She reproached the inaction of the EU special mission in Kosovo, as well as the international NATO force KFOR, responsible for stability in Kosovo.

"They do not protect the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija," the prime minister added.

On December 8, the media reported that 200 to 300 Kosovo special forces arrived in the Serb-populated town of Kosovska Mitrovica and headed further north, to the Bosniacka Mahala area. The Kosovo police confirmed that they decided to increase the number of employees in the northern part of the republic to "ensure the safety of all citizens". As part of the agreements between the authorities of Serbia and Kosovo concluded in Brussels, the Kosovo police have no right to enter Serb-populated areas without the permission of the heads of four Serbian municipalities. Earlier today, on December 9, the head of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija under the Serbian government, Petar Petkovic, threatened to send 1,000 representatives of the security forces to Kosovo territory, Kommersant reports.
