Prominent boxer explains refusal to serve in Ukrainian army

30 September 2023 14:23

Former boxer, and brother of Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko, Vladimir, said that he “doesn’t want to die for Ukraine,” but wants to “live for it.”

He said this in remarks on his non-participation in the military conflict on the side of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, as well as the fact that he is not on the territory of Ukraine at all now.

“I am not ready to die for Ukraine. I am ready to live for her. This is more difficult than dying,” said Vladimir Klitschko in an interview with the German TV channel ZDF.

At the same time, he emphasized that many residents of Ukraine made a different choice and are now fighting in the ranks of the Ukrainian army. According to the brother of the Kyiv mayor, the majority of those who are now serving in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and at the front are not mobilized, but volunteers.

Vladimir Klitschko said that he lives permanently in Germany now and regularly participates in various events to help Ukrainians, and also convinces local politicians and businessmen of the need to continue and expand comprehensive support for Kyiv.
