2023 Youth Ice Hockey World Championship to be held in Canada instead of Russia

06 May 2022 09:44

The 2023 IIHF World Youth Championship will be held in Halifax and Moncton, Canada. This was announced on Thursday by the press service of the Ice Hockey Federation of Canada, TASS reports.

“We are delighted to be able to host the 2023 World Youth Championships in Halifax and Moncton. These are two great cities with first-class stadiums and passionate fans who support youth hockey. I thank the Ice Hockey Federation of Canada for finding two great venues in such a short time and look forward to the 2023 World Championships,” said IIHF President Luc Tardif.

Initially, the 2023 Youth World Championship was to be held in Novosibirsk and Omsk, but the IIHF Council decided to revoke the right to host it from the Russian Ice Hockey Federation (FHR) due to the situation in Ukraine. Also, Russia was deprived of the right to host the 2023 World Cup in St. Petersburg, Russian teams and clubs were suspended from participating in competitions under the auspices of the international federation for an indefinite period.
