Azerbaijan still waiting for Paris 2024 medal replacements National Olympic Committee says
Azerbaijan's National Olympic Committee (NOC) says it has yet to receive a clear response from the Paris 2024 Organising Committee regarding the replacement of defective Olympic medals awarded to Azerbaijani athletes.
Speaking to journalists following an Executive Committee meeting on June 12, NOC Vice President Chingiz Huseynzade said all necessary steps had been taken to address the issue of substandard medals distributed during last summer's Games, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
“We have done everything required on our part. All relevant information was submitted to the International Olympic Committee, which in turn referred the matter to the Paris 2024 Organising Committee,” Huseynzade said. He added that although the Paris 2024 Organising Committee has largely concluded its operations, some remaining bodies are still handling outstanding matters, including the case of the returned medals.
“We have yet to receive a concrete answer. However, we have been assured that the issue will be resolved,” he said.
Note that five Azerbaijani athletes who won medals at the Paris Olympics have filed complaints with the NOC about the rapid deterioration of their medals. In response, the NOC conducted an investigation and sent an official request to the IOC.
The coating of the gold medal of Olympic judo champion Zelim Kotsoev, the silver medals of taekwondo athlete Gashim Magomedov and boxer Alfonso Dominguez, as well as the bronze medals of Greco-Roman wrestler Hasrat Jafarov and freestyle wrestler Giorgi Meshvildishvili, have all reportedly experienced peeling off.
