Israel uses AI "Gospel" to strike Hamas

Israel is using the artificial intelligence (AI) system "Gospel" to select strike targets in the Gaza Strip, and experts express fear of the chosen tactics. 

The system offers the military coordinates of houses where members of Hamas and other groups may live, but the decision to strike is made by the military, The Guardian reports.

Experts warn that this practice leads to excessive dependence on AI: operators lose the ability to meaningfully assess the risk of harming civilians.

The database of the Israeli army contains information about 30-40 thousand people suspected of membership in Hamas or other militant groups, the automated system offers coordinates of residences of such Palestinians, sources told Israeli Local Call.

The special unit was created to solve a problem that arose during Israel's previous military operations in Gaza, when the army repeatedly ran out of targets for strikes.
