Bavarian premier calls for halt to welfare payments to new Ukrainian refugees

Prime Minister of Bavaria, and chairman of the Christian Social Union (CSU) Markus Söder has said that it is necessary to stop payments to newly arrived refugees from Ukraine.

Söder emphasized that it was wrong to cancel social payments for all Ukrainian refugees, Stern reports.

"But we must change course regarding all new cases," he said.

According to him, for all refugees who came from other countries, social benefits should be available only after five years, not after 1.5 years, as is currently in effect.
