FM unveils main goal of Iran-Russia declaration

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said that a joint declaration between Iran and Russia will help overcome sanctions imposed by the US and its partners.

Lavrov made these remarks during negotiations with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amirabdollahian, TASS reports.

“We have just signed a declaration on ways and means to counter, mitigate and compensate for the negative consequences of unilateral coercive measures. Of course, this is an important step in increasing the coordination of efforts of members of the international community to overcome illegal sanctions, which the US and its allies have made a replacement for diplomacy,” the Russian foreign minister noted.

Negotiations between Russia and Iran were held on December 5 on the sidelines of a meeting with the foreign ministers of the Caspian littoral contries, namely, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan. The document signed by representatives of the Iranian and Russian sides was called “Declaration of the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic of Iran on ways and means of countering, mitigating and compensating for the negative consequences of unilateral coercive measures”.
