Latvia calls IOC's decision to admit Russia to Olympics “insult”

Latvian Minister of Education and Science Anda Caksa has said that the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to allow athletes from Russia to participate in the Olympic Games - 2024 in Paris is an insult to athletes from other countries.

"I condemn the IOC decision because it offends athletes and the highest goal of sport - a fair fight. So, let's do everything we can to get justice on behalf of Ukrainians and all athletes who deserve the Olympic Games, which honour human achievements and do not carry political overtones," Gazeta.Ru quotes Caksa as saying.

On December 8, the International Olympic Committee allowed athletes from Russia to participate in the Olympic Games - 2024 in a neutral status.

The IOC said that Russian athletes will be required to sign updated participation conditions, including a commitment to respect the Olympic Charter, including the "peaceful mission of the Olympic movement." Those Russian athletes who qualify in their disciplines will be allowed to compete.
