Macron urges French not to vote for “extremes” during parliamentary elections

23 June 2024 14:11

French President Emmanuel Macron has called on the French to refrain from voting for “extremes” amid polls that predict a victory for Marine Le Pen's National Rally.

President Macron stressed that he is confident in the intelligence and strength of the French people, calling on fellow citizens to be responsible, Caliber.Az reports citing the French media.

“There are extremes that cannot be allowed. There are many people who would like to divide the people. There are many people who would like to govern against the people” President Macron said.

Earlier, President Macron said opposing political groups could govern together to block the path to power of the “extremes,” as polls indicate his centrist party and its allies are set for an election defeat.

With just a week to go until voting starts, Macron trails well behind Marine Le Pen’s National Rally and a hastily reassembled leftist bloc called the New Popular Front in surveys of intentions. One pollster even suggests the far-right party could clinch an absolute majority in the National Assembly, though France’s two-round voting system makes forecasting tricky.
