Activist: France must end colonial tyranny to ensure freedom for Martinique PHOTO
The infringement of the fundamental rights of the peoples of the colonized territories by the French imperialist regime will continue until official Paris frees itself from this tyrannical system.
The remarks were made by Daniel Dubois, head of public relations and youth department of the Martinique Justice Collective, at the international conference “Colonialism: Eradication of national and religious identity” in Baku, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
Dubois emphasized that despite the existence of international norms and rights, France continues to flagrantly violate constitutional requirements to ensure the protection of human rights, freedom, property and security, especially in its overseas territories.
“We will continue to fight for our rights until France stops trampling on our freedoms and liberates us from its colonial system,” emphasized Daniel Dubois.
He expressed the determination of the people of Martinique to continue resisting colonial oppression until final victory and true independence.
Addressing the event, Eugene Tetuanui, Secretary of the New Caledonia NCMCP Association, said all French colonies should declare their independence at the same time.
He turned to French overseas territories, calling for unity: “At these conferences taking place in Baku, we must show determination in the face of threats. It is necessary to act to achieve our goals. Now our children are dying and our parents are in dire straits. The colonizers are treating us cruelly”.
Declaring independence by all the overseas territories on the same day would bring about real change, he said: “This is the only way we can achieve results.”
To note, the conference, organized by the Baku Initiative Group, is attended by representatives of independence movements from territories under the colonial control of France and the Netherlands, including Guadeloupe, French Guiana, New Caledonia (Kanaki), Corsica, Martinique, Reunion, Bonaire, French Polynesia, Mayotte, Wallis and Futuna, as well as relatives of political prisoners.
For the record, the Baku Initiative Group, an international non-governmental organization, is dedicated to fostering international partnerships in the fields of decolonization and human rights.
The group firmly and continuously supports the struggles for freedom and independence of those living under colonial and neocolonial rule, committing to solidarity and practical assistance.
