AFP: Hamas faces internal rift over Trump’s proposal

Hamas has been hit by internal divisions during discussions over a peace plan put forward by US President Donald Trump, AFP reports, citing a source close to the movement.

According to the source, two opposing views have emerged. One faction supports unconditional acceptance of the proposal, arguing that the key priority is the ceasefire promised by Trump, provided mediators ensure Israel’s compliance with the terms.

However, another group rejects elements of the plan, particularly the disarmament of Hamas and the expulsion of Palestinian residents from Gaza.

The source added that this second camp, which includes Hamas’s military wing, is firmly opposed to any move that would criminalise its activities.
