Agreement on security guarantees for Ukraine being finalized – presidential office

Legal subgroups taking part in peace talks with Russia have been finalizing the agreement on security guarantees for Ukraine. 

The process continues given the further situation on the battlefields, RBC-Ukraine reports with reference to an interview with Adviser to the Head of the Office of the Ukrainian president Mikhail Podolyak for NV [New Voice of Ukraine]. 

Podolyak stressed that the Ukrainian side had a successful formula for how to get out of the war and get security guarantees. A more or less clear formula has been outlined in the Istanbul communiqué. 

However, after it became known about the war crimes of the Russian army in Ukraine’s Kyiv region, the negotiation process changed. Moreover, afterward, a station in Ukraine’s Kramatorsk city was attacked via missiles, while Mariupol city is still being destroyed. 

“However, working legal subgroups are finalizing the agreement on security guarantees for Ukraine regarding its compliance with international law,” advisor said.“Political consultations are being held at the level of political advisers of countries - potential guarantors. Everything is going on, but in parallel, there is an expectation of what will happen on the battlefield.”
