Air defences repel attack on US Embassy in Baghdad VIDEO
Air defence systems intercepted a projectile in the early morning of March 17 over the Iraqi capital, roughly 600 metres from the US Embassy in Baghdad.
CNN has reported on the incident, showing footage of it.
The video shows traces of anti-aircraft fire launched by US air defence systems. Moments later, an explosion is visible in the sky, indicating that the projectile was intercepted.
Another video captures a drone falling to the ground near the US Embassy. The footage shows air defence rounds streaking across the sky before an object resembling a drone drops to the ground. A powerful explosion can then be heard in a video recorded about 1,000 metres from the embassy.
The embassy has previously come under attack. On March 14, two drones targeted the US Embassy in the Iraqi capital, a security source told reporters.
Early today, March 17, a spokesperson for the commander-in-chief of Iraq’s armed forces said that “unjustified attacks” had targeted several vital facilities, institutions, and diplomatic missions.
Among the targets were the headquarters of the US Embassy in Baghdad, the Majnoon Oil Field, and the Al‑Rasheed Hotel.
