Airspace turmoil forces AZAL to cancel flights to Tel Aviv, Tehran, and Dubai

Azerbaijan’s flagship carrier, AZAL (Azerbaijan Airlines), has announced the cancellation of several of its scheduled flights due to the closure of airspace in a number of Middle Eastern countries for security reasons.

According to the airline’s press service, cited by Caliber.Az, the following AZAL flights scheduled for June 13 and 14 have been cancelled:

  • Baku – Tel Aviv – Baku

    • Flight J2 021/022 (June 13)

    • Flight J2 321/322 (June 13)

    • Flight J2 021/022 (June 14)

  • Baku – Dubai – Baku

    • Flight J2 011/012 (June 13)

  • Baku – Tehran – Baku

    • Flight J2 8017/8018 (June 13)

AZAL stressed that flight safety remains its top priority.

Passengers seeking assistance or information regarding the cancelled flights are advised to contact the airline’s call centre via email at: callcenter@azal.az.

In a related development, as restrictions have been imposed over the airspace of Iran, Iraq, and Israel, Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Baku has received multiple flight diversion requests from international airlines in need of safe airspace and landing facilities.

As a result of swift decisions and well-coordinated efforts, the following international flights successfully landed at Baku Airport during the morning hours:

  • AJet: Istanbul – Tehran (Boeing 737)

  • FlyDubai:

    • Minsk – Dubai (Boeing 737)

    • Kazan – Dubai (Boeing 737)

    • St. Petersburg – Dubai (Boeing 737)

    • Moscow – Dubai (Boeing 737)

  • Air Arabia: Moscow – Sharjah (Airbus A320)

  • Jazeera Airways:

    • Makhachkala – Kuwait (Airbus A320)

    • Moscow – Kuwait (Airbus A320)

  • Etihad Airways: Moscow – Abu Dhabi (Boeing 787)

  • Turkish Airlines:

    • Istanbul – Phuket (Boeing 777)

    • Istanbul – Singapore (Airbus A330)

The Heydar Aliyev International Airport provided full operational support for these arrivals, ensuring all flights were received in line with strict passenger safety standards, comfort requirements, and efficient logistical coordination.

The airport's press service underlined that Baku Airport serves as a dependable transit and aviation hub in the region, equipped with the necessary infrastructure and rapid-response capabilities to safely reroute both regional and global air traffic in any emergency situation.
